General information on Tunisia

CURRENCY : 2.07 Tunisian Dinars - £ 1

SOLID INFRASTRUCTURE

  • The six airports in Tunisia provide flights around the world and the country (British Airways Tunis/London rtn -2 hr 10mn)
  • Good roads and motorways link the whole country from the Mediterranean in the North to the Sahara in the South.
  • Like California, Tunisia is special in having hugely contrasting landscapes over a very small area, almost as if you were filming in a studio. Sea, mountains, forests and desert are all in close proximity. The country measures @500km north to south.
  • Tunisia has a strong and healthy tourist industry and there are comfortable, affordable 3, 4 and 5-star hotels all over the country.
  • Beautiful islands all along the coast.
POLITICS AND THE ECONOMY
Within the past few years, Tunisia has emerged as the unqualified financial success story of Arab North Africa, with high GDP growth rates and low inflation rates. It is the first Arab country to be assigned a BBB country credit rating - better than that of South Africa. A stable government and large middle class have contributed to this accomplishment. The people of Tunisia have a reputation for tolerance and hospitality.

GOOD WEATHER : 10 sunny months in every 12.

HISTORY
At the heart of the Mediterranean, Tunisia has been the crossroads for many civilisations. The country has been under Roman, Byzantine, Phoenician, Carthaginian, Turk, Andalucian, French, and Arab control throughout its existence. The result is an almost unparalleled variety of buildings, monuments and sites that bear witness to this multitude of cultures and different religions - Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

PAST PRODUCTIONS
Since the sixties Tunisia has been the host to countless large and small-scale productions, amongst them:

  • Star Wars 1, 2 and 4
  • The English Patient
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Zeffirelli's Jesus of Nazareth
  • Monty Python's Life of Brian
  • Roman Polanski's Pirates etc..

The wide variety of these projects means that technicians in Tunisia have experience of an international standard, however their salaries remain very reasonable. We also have many talented and accomplished local actors.

We can arrange for removal of heavy equipment, electrical or mechanical. All equipment brought into the country will pass rapidly through customs; equipment such as camera and film arriving with the client will leave the airport with the crew.
